Pre Preseason 2018
So now that we are back from our summer trip and school has began again we are in what I call the Pre preseason. The reason why I call it this is because we are in technically preseason but it isn't the official preseason. I will explain. Preseason technically begins for us September 29th because it is 40 days before our first official game of the season, which means all our NCAA restrictions will be removed. The current restrictions we have now based on NCAA rules are that we are not allowed to do more than 2 hours a week, of practice/workouts on court with a coach. We need to have two mandatory off-days a week, and all open gyms that take place has to be "voluntary" and coaches can not be in the same room watching or instructing what is going on. This is how things are taking place now until September 29th in order to control coaches from not over working players and preventing schools from having any advantages.
When preseason begins however all restrictions will be removed and coaches will be able to spend up to 4 hours a day on court with us however way they want to use it. ( Broken up or all in one chunk). And whatever else they want to do they basically can. This roughly 5-6 week stretch is probably the toughest time for a basketball player at the division 1 level and one of the rudest awakenings for a freshmen as things get real. Coaches begin implementing all the philosophies and plays. There is time to repeat things over and over and over again in order to get it right so we do repeat things every practice until they are right. Guys are completing for starting jobs and minutes for the start of the season. Everyone is sore, each and everyday. And coaches start showing their true colors as we draw closer to games and they want us to be in the best position in order to win games which is what keeps or loses them their jobs. It seems like there in no light at the end of the tunnel and these last couple of weeks now are what we have to prepare us for it.
So I will be making the most of my pre preseason now because when preseason actually begins am sure you will be able to tell by the way I begin limping to class from all the pain am in!
